LAS VEGAS (AP) — School's just getting started for former Nevada Congresswoman Shelley Berkley.

Officials at Touro University say she's kicking off her new job there Monday with a speech to students and faculty at the Vallejo campus.

Berkley was named western division CEO and senior provost at Touro, which is a nonprofit Jewish-sponsored higher education system. She'll oversee campuses in California and Nevada.

Berkley served as a Democrat in Congress from 1999 to 2013 and narrowly lost a 2012 bid for Senate to Republican contender Dean Heller.

Touro was established in 1970 and enrolls about 19,000 students at campuses in New York, Berlin, Jerusalem, Moscow, Paris, Florida, California and Nevada.

The school offers programs in education, nursing, physical therapy and other fields.
