SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities have lifted evacuations in San Francisco's Presidio that were put in place after a U.S. Park Service officer found explosives in the back of a vehicle.
Park service spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet says the officer pulled the driver over for a traffic violation a little before 10 p.m. Monday. The driver said he had fireworks in the back of the car.
Picavet says the officer could not determine what the devices were, so the San Francisco police bomb squad was called in. Three businesses near Crissy Field were evacuated.
The bomb squad determined the the two devices, which Picavet said looked like dynamite, were explosive and took them to an undisclosed location and detonated them around 2 a.m. The suspect was arrested. He has not been identified.
