FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Police are searching for four teenage boys who were allegedly involved in an attempted robbery at a Fresno high school in which a 30-year-old teacher was shot.

The Fresno Bee reports that Steven Guerrero, who teaches athletic training part-time at Edison High School, was in fair condition with two gunshot wounds following the shooting in a school classroom Thursday night.

Deputy Police Chief Pat Farmer says the suspects confronted Guerrero when they entered the unlocked classroom and demanded a laptop computer.

The teacher allowed them to take the computer but decided to fight back after one of the teens struck him with a 25-pount free weight.

Farmer says Guerrero knocked a handgun out of one of the suspect's hands, but the suspect got it first and shot him.

Authorities do not think the suspects are current Edison students.
