LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say one of five members of a Los Angeles family who were struck by a car driven by an elderly man has died.

Police say 59-year-old Guadalupe Chavez, the grandmother of the family, died Sunday.

City News Service reports her 10-year-old granddaughter, Marina Carillo, remains in critical condition.

The crash happened Friday morning across from Yorkdale Elementary School in the Highland Park neighborhood.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Ruda said a 32-year-old woman, a daughter of Chavez, and her two sons, ages 7 and 9, were listed in serious condition. The 10-year-old is a cousin.

Police officials said the driver of the car, an 87-year-old man, ran a stop sign before hitting the pedestrians. The driver stopped after the incident and spoke with detectives. He has not been arrested.
