LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a Las Vegas teen accused of attacking his grandfather with a souvenir baseball bat told them he heard voices urging him to kill the man.
Eighteen-year-old Nicholas Duran was booked into Clark County jail Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder. He was set to appear in court Friday.
Police say Duran was living with his grandfather, Arthur Duran, who asked him to leave and find a job. Authorities say the suspect left, but then returned home and hit his grandfather on the head several times with an 18-inch bat.
A police report says the grandfather was taken to the hospital with wounds that left the bone exposed.
The teen reportedly told police his grandfather had punched him, and he became angry and had a schizophrenic episode.
