SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say three schools in the San Francisco Bay area are on lock-down after a student reported seeing an armed man.

Television station KNTV reports that school and law enforcement officials in the city of Sunnyvale issued a "code red" alert for West Valley Elementary School, Cupertino Middle School and Homestead High School on Friday morning.

The alert requires staff and students to stay in locked classrooms or other secured areas during an imminent threat of danger.

It was triggered after a student reported seeing a man with a revolver near Cupertino Middle School. The other two schools also were locked-down as a precaution.

School officials have asked parents to stay away from the campuses while police search for someone matching the man's description.
