SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Marine Corps says a Hawaii-based Marine died during a training exercise at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Military officials say 20-year-old Pfc. Casey J. Holmes from Chico, Calif., died Monday.
Officials released no details of the circumstances of his death, but said it remains under investigation.
Holmes enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 2012 and joined the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in October of that same year.
The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms is a vast training base in the Mojave Desert.
