LAS VEGAS (AP) — A public hearing is set to examine why Las Vegas police fatally shot a 26-year-old man in December.
A fact-finding session into Patrick Heki's death is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the Clark County Government Center. It will also air live on Clark County TV and will be streamed online.
Police have said Heki made threatening and suicidal statements at his parents' home early on Dec. 7. Dispatchers say he talked of a killing spree and fired shots before emerging from the apartment.
Police say they ordered Heki to put down his gun, but he pointed it at them and they shot back. He died shortly after.
Heki's father told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his son obeyed police and put the pistol on a sidewalk in clear view.
