RIALTO, Calif. (AP) — Rialto school district officials say a high school basketball coach was shot several times after he stopped at a San Bernardino park to use the bathroom.

The San Bernardino Sun reports 47-year-old Steve Johnson was outside his vehicle at Secombe Lake Park on Monday night when he says three men approached him and demanded his wallet.

Police Lt. Paul Williams says Johnson was shot in the upper torso before he drove to a nearby police station to report the crime. He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he's being treated for the wounds.

Johnson was inducted into the Rialto Hall of Fame in 2011 and was named Los Angeles Times Coach of the year in 2009.
