NORWALK, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a 58-year-old homeless man who was set on fire as he slept on a Norwalk street has died in a hospital from the burns he suffered four months ago.

Deputy Guillermina Saldana says the man died Thursday.

The man was sleeping outside a doughnut shop on Dec. 19 when he was doused with an unknown liquid and set on fire at about 1 a.m.

Someone heard his screams and called authorities for help.

The man had slept in the spot for years and was familiar in the community, but had refused offers of help.

There have been no arrests in the crime. Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating.
