CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada prison inmate serving up to life in prison for sexual assault has died while in custody.

The Department of Corrections says 53-year-old Paul Skinner was found unresponsive Tuesday in his cell at Ely State Prison. Staff performed life sustaining procedures until emergency responders arrived.

Skinner was taken to a hospital in Ely where he was pronounced dead.

He is at least the eighth inmate to die in custody in recent months.

Skinner has been in prison since 1997 following his conviction in Washoe County for sexual assault and robbery.

Prison officials say an autopsy will be conducted.
