LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles judge has denied a defense motion to move the trial of the former city manager who is charged with bilking millions of dollars from the modest suburb of Bell.
City News Service says Judge Kathleen Kennedy rejected the motion by Robert Rizzo's attorneys on Wednesday.
However, Kennedy says she will reconsider moving the case out of Los Angeles County if it becomes apparent during jury selection that a fair panel can't be seated.
Rizzo and his former assistant Angela Spaccia are charged with misappropriating public funds. Their trial is expected to begin later this year.
Rizzo was fired after it was discovered he had an annual salary and compensation package of $1.5 million and was paying large salaries to other city employees.
