LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge handed stern words and a harsh sentence to a Las Vegas pimp convicted of felony charges including kidnapping, battery, assault, pandering and living off the earnings of a prostitute.
Prosecutors say Clark County District Court Judge Michael Villani told 35-year-old Ocean Fleming on Tuesday that he had only himself and his own arrogance to blame for his 15 years-to-life state prison sentence.
Fleming had blamed his defense attorney, Robert Draskovich, and "malicious and overaggressive" prosecutors for his August trial conviction. He said he intends to appeal.
Fleming was arrested in September 2011 after a woman who worked for him tried to escape from him in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood. Fleming dragged her away.
Prosecotors say Fleming used violence and fear to turn young women into prostitutes.
