RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – KRNV is the only TV station in Nevada to be honored for its work with the 2014 Radio Television Digital News Association Regional Murrow Award. 11pm News Anchor Elias Johnson’s work was recognized in three different categories; “Reporting: Hard News”, “Investigative Reporting” and “Feature Reporting”.
In a news release announcing the winners, Executive Director of RTDNA Mike Cavender said, “The Murrow Awards honor journalism at its finest... Local newsrooms serve their communities 365 days a year, and we're proud to recognize the great work they do." RTDNA received more than 4,000 entries nationwide. Regional winners automatically advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition.
Elias’ investigative reporting was recognized for his Gulf War Fallout investigation into claims by two Gulf War Marines that depleted uranium exposure overseas led to brain tumors and other health problems 15 years after service.
His feature reporting series Silver State Heroes Honor Flight was recognized for featuring Nevada WWII veterans as they head to see the the memorials dedicated in their name in D.C. despite the government shutdown.
He was also awarded for Hard News reporting for his Water Wars story about a Golden Valley couple’s issue with dry wells on their property.
