LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles City Attorney wants to crack down on a turf war in Echo Park neighborhoods where six rival gangs have terrorized locals with their bloody feuds, drug trafficking and vandalism.

Carmen Trutanich announced a proposed gang injunction Tuesday that is designed stop gang members from associating with each other in a 3.8 square mile area near downtown Los Angeles.

The six gangs named in the injunction are the Big Top Locos, the Crazys, the Diamond Street Locos, Echo Park Locos, Frogtown Rifa and the Head Hunters.

Prosecutors say the rivals have feuded for many years.

Gang injunctions are widely recognized as a tool to reduce gang activity. Los Angeles pioneered gang injunctions in the 1980s and they've since spread across the country and even overseas.
