LAS VEGAS (AP) — A defense attorney is arguing for the release from jail of a 23-year-old Saudi Arabia air force sergeant arrested on New Year's Eve and accused of raping a 13-year-old boy in a Las Vegas Strip hotel room.

Defense attorney Don Chairez says he'll tell a judge that aircraft mechanic Mazen Alotaibi (MAH'-zen ah-loh-TAH'-bee) will surrender his Saudi diplomatic passport and stay in the U.S. if he's allowed to post $25,000 bail.

Prosecutors are seeking $1 million bail, surrender of Alotaibi's passport, house arrest and electronic monitoring.

Alotaibi faces kidnapping, sexual assault with a minor and felony coercion charges that could get him decades in state prison.

Alotaibi has been stationed at air bases in Texas and Mississippi.

Police allege the attack occurred Dec. 31 at the Circus Circus hotel.
