LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 25-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in the death of a 16-month-old girl.

Court officials say Detrail Young was ordered to prison Tuesday but could be paroled after 10 years. He will also receive credit for 237 days he's already served behind bars.

Authorities say Young admitted to shaking Quie'sear Williams-Caraway when she wouldn't stop crying. She was taken to the hospital in June with head and body injuries and died two days later.

Police say Young initially denied injuring the child, but later demonstrated for detectives how he shook her in frustration while he was alone caring for her.

The child was the daughter of Young's girlfriend's cousin.

KLAS-TV reports Young pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November.
