REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) — A San Francisco Bay Area man convicted of impregnating his 12-year-old daughter and then taking her to a hospital for an abortion has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison.

The Palo Alto Daily News reports that a San Mateo County judge issued the sentence against Manuel Jacinto on Tuesday. Jacinto, of Redwood City, pleaded no contest last month to three felony counts of forcible child molestation.

Authorities say hospital officials performed the abortion on Jacinto's daughter in 2007, but notified police. Jacinto allegedly fled to Guatemala when police requested a DNA sample from him.

Authorities say he was arrested and returned to California in December 2012.
