SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A 20-year-old man driving a stolen SUV has died after leading San Jose police on a wild chase where he tried to run down or collide with officers four times.

Officer Albert Morales said Sunday night's chase ended when the SUV went off the road and crashed into a ravine. The young man was ejected from the car.

Two teenage girls in the SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Morales said the chase began when an SUV with its lights off approached an officer making a traffic stop and sped up. The officer had to dive to avoid being run over.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/ZaL3JJ) that during the chase, the man slammed on the brakes, drove head-on towards the same officer and tried to ram two patrol cars.
