Man goes on deadly carjacking rampage in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Police say a man went on a carjacking rampage in Fresno, killing one person and wounding two others before he was shot and killed by an off-duty correctional officer.

The Fresno Bee reports that the incident began around 5:45 p.m. Thursday when two cars crashed. Police say the unidentified suspect got out of one of the cars and carjacked a woman, who escaped when the gunman went into a liquor store. The man then allegedly attempted two take two more vehicles. Police say he critically wounded the driver of a minivan and shot and killed the driver of a truck and wounded his wife.

The man who died was identified as 65-year-old Nhia Lee.

Police say the correctional officer saw the man shoot an SUV and opened fire on him as he attempted to drive away.
