AUBURN, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been found alive in snowy conditions after he went missing while running on a trail in a mountainous region of Northern California.

Placer County Sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin says searchers found Robert Root shortly after noon Tuesday near Michigan Bluff on the Western States Trail, two days after he had been reported missing.

Erwin says Root, who was found wearing only a light running shirt, shorts and running shoes, was talking with rescuers. His condition was not immediately known.

The 55-year-old Root of Modesto was last seen Sunday morning when he became separated from a group of runners training along the trail near Foresthill.

Erwin says rescue crews had been searching for Root since, including overnight Monday, as a storm brought snow to the area.
