SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (AP) — The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that injured a motorcycle rider on Saturday afternoon.

Sgt. Jeremy Grundy says in a statement that three riders were near the Vine Street race track in Fernley, Nevada when the shots were fired.

Grundy says the motorcyclists were riding in the desert near the Sarasota Flats dry lake when one of the riders was struck in the elbow.

The injury was not life-threatening. Officials did no identify the rider.

Grundy says the area is commonly used for target practice by shooters.

He says deputies interviewed several shooters nearby but could not determine where the bullet came from.

They are still investigating but say it does not appear to have been an intentional shooting.
