LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a motorist is dead after a vehicle slammed into an apartment building in a residential neighborhood several miles northeast of downtown Las Vegas.

Officer Larry Hadfield says police were called a little after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to the crash in the 6900 block of Appleton Drive. That's off Carey Avenue east of Hollywood Boulevard.

Hadfield says the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name, age and gender of the motorist weren't immediately made public.

The Clark County coroner is expected to release the person's identity while investigating a cause of death.

Hadfield says no one else was in the vehicle, and investigators aren't sure if the driver had a medical episode or died of injuries in the crash.
