CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State officials say Nevada's unemployment rate has dropped to 8.8 percent in December.

That's the lowest number since November 2008, and the fourth straight month-to-month decline.

Gov. Brian Sandoval says he's pleased Nevada ended the year on a positive note, but adds that the jobless rate is still too high.

Statistics released by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show unemployment rates rose in the state's individual metro areas.

Las Vegas' jobless rate climbed from 8.6 percent to 8.9 percent, while Reno's rate was up from 8.2 percent to 8.4 percent. Carson City's unemployment rate went up from 9.1 percent to 9.3 percent.

The regional jobless rates aren't seasonally adjusted, unlike the statewide figure.

Those numbers are not real, they reflect the recent loss of federal unemployment benefits that ended at the end of December. How many people are not working, are not getting unemployment benefits or are dependent on other federal aid? I have not seen any increase of employment and I have been unemployed for over a year. Jobs have not improved and the economy is still frayed - not to mention the increase in prices of consumer food and products. Real numbers is what is needed - not these bogus figures.
