PHOENIX (AP) — A massive computer-chip factory built by Intel Corp. in a Phoenix suburb is vacant even as the Santa Clara, Calif., adds jobs in Arizona.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy says the Chandler fabrication plant known as Fab 42 will be used at a future date but he says specifics haven't been decided.

Mulloy says employees doing the work that had been anticipated for the new plant instead are working in other facilities in Chandler.

The Arizona Republic reports that Intel has 11,900 full-time employees in Chandler. That's up from 9,700 from 2011 when plans for Fab 42 were announced.

The Arizona Commerce Authority says Intel received $3.3 million state tax credits for the additional jobs.
