RENO, Nev. (AP) — A nonprofit group is taking over Rosewood Lakes Golf Course in a deal approved by the Reno City Council.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports The First Tee of Northern Nevada will lease, manage, operate and redevelop the 18-hole golf course that has been a strain on city finances for years.

The agreement approved Wednesday by the City Council includes a short-term lease for The First Tee to operate the golf course starting this year.

That lease will remain in effect until construction on the Southeast Connector roadway begins.

The council also approved a long-term agreement that would allow for The First Tee to continue operating the course if it can demonstrate it is a financially viable operation.
