SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Orange County prosecutors say a committee has found a woman suitable for parole after she was convicted of murdering her husband with the help of her boyfriend in a plot to collect his life insurance money.

Spokeswoman Farrah Emami says it now falls to Gov. Jerry Brown to decide whether 58-year-old Jeanette Lynne Hughes will be paroled over the objections of the district attorney's office and two of the victim's family members.

A jury convicted Hughes of first degree murder in 1986 and she was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison.

Prosecutor Paul Chrisopoulous attended Friday's hearing and argued Hughes has failed to accept responsibility and persists in blaming the victim.

Chrisopoulous says Hughes has repeatedly tried to escape prison.
