SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Northern Nevada tourism officials are hoping off-road enthusiasts will to flock to the Reno-Sparks area for a new special event this summer.

Sparks officials and the Nugget hotel-casino joined longtime local businessman Norm Diana on Wednesday in announcing the first Silver State 4WD & UTV Jamboree to be held July 14-19.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the event will pit dozens of off-road vehicles against each other in a variety of competitions at Dianda's Wild West Motorsports Park east of Sparks.

Sponsors say as many as 50 off-road vehicles are expected to compete with hundreds more converging on the area for the weekend.

The Nugget will serve as the host hotel.
