OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — After less than two years on the job, Oxnard School District Superintendent Jeff Chancer has announced plans to retire.

The Ventura County Star says Chancer submitted his letter of intent Thursday to all district employees.

The 64-year-old Chancer says his decision to retire has nothing to do with his feelings about his job or health concerns.

He says it's just time.

Chancer was selected to lead the Oxnard School District in August 2011 and took the job a month later.

District trustee Denis O'Leary tells the newspaper the search for a new superintendent will begin soon and that he hopes it will be national.

O'Leary says he hopes a new superintendent is in place before the next school year.
