MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — Crews are inspecting a SkyWest plane that was forced to make an emergency landing at Monterey Regional Airport.

SkyWest spokeswoman Marissa Snow says the plane was en route from Bakersfield to San Francisco with 27 people on board Sunday night when a smoke alarm went off, and the captain decided to land.

The plane touched down safely in Monterey a few minutes before 9 p.m. Snow says there was never actually smoke in the cabin.

The passengers were provided with ground transportation to San Francisco.

It was not immediately clear what caused the smoke alarm to go off.

I was a passenger on flight 5303. Your story omitted the fact that the entire passenger cabin got filled with smoke and an electrical odor. It was a scary experience with much more than a smoke alarm going off.
