LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Utah man wounded in a shootout that also left a veteran police officer injured during a traffic stop in the Nevada resort city of Mesquite is identified as 40-year-old Daniel Wesley Runyon.
A woman who was with Runyan during the 7:50 a.m. Thursday shooting is identified as 48-year-old Tina Cornell of St. George, Utah.
Mesquite police said Friday that Runyan is being treated at a Las Vegas hospital pending a court appearance on charges including assault with a weapon on a police officer and methamphetamine trafficking.
Cornell is being held at the Clark County jail on methamphetamine trafficking and other charges.
Patrol Officer Craig Empey was wounded in the leg and is recuperating at home.
Police say he's the first Mesquite police officer ever wounded on the job.
