LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors say a former Long Beach police officer has been sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison for sex crimes involving underage girls.

Los Angeles County district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons says 40-year-old Noe Yanez (NOH'-ee YAH'-nezz) pleaded guilty Friday to six counts of sex crimes and was immediately sentenced.

Yanez was arrested in April for possession of child pornography following an allegation of inappropriate contact with a minor, and was later re-arrested because a police investigation turned up additional victims.

Gibbons says Yanez had five victims from 2008 until shortly before he was charged in 2012.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of forcible rape, meeting a minor for lewd purposes and other crimes.

Yanez was fired by the Long Beach Police Department last June after nine years of employment.
