RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 24-year-old man has been arraigned on drug and animal cruelty charges after Reno police say they found the remains of several dismembered dogs in a motel room he'd been renting.

Jason Brown was arraigned in Reno Justice Court Monday on five felony counts of willful torture of an animal and one count of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Brown was being held in the Washoe County jail on $35,000 bail.

Police say they found four dog heads in a small refrigerator with several knives and scissors Tuesday in a room at the Super 8 on South Virginia Street. They estimate five dogs were dismembered.

It wasn't immediately clear if Brown has a lawyer or will be appointed one before his next court appearance July 21.
