RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say an officer shot an armed suspect just east of downtown but they are releasing few details.

Officer Tim Broadway confirmed shots were fired by officers shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday. He says one subject was hit and has been taken to a Reno hospital where the subject's condition is not known.

Schools have been locked down near Sutro and Wells Avenue, and Sutro and East 9th Street while police search for a second suspect. He's described as a white male, 5-foot-8, to 5-foot-10 with a medium build, short hair and eye glasses.

Broadway says officers opened fire after the first suspect pointed a gun at them. No other information is immediately available.

The area is just north of Interstate 80 near the Washoe County government complex.
