CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The BLM says to expect low flying aircraft over the Pine Nut Mountains over the next few weeks.

Aerial seeding is scheduled to begin Jan. 14 to revegetate thousands of acres burned by several wildfires last summer.

The project is a joint effort by the BLM and other agencies, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Nevada Division of Forestry.

Officials say a seed mix of perennial grasses, forbs and shrubs that establish quickly will be spread over the burn areas to reduce soil erosion, enhance sage grouse habitat and prevent the spread of cheatgrass.

The reseeding project is expected to be completed by Feb. 2.
