SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — San Jose officials are offering $20,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of a second suspect wanted in a string of violent weekend crimes, including the wounding of a police officer.
One man — 26-year-old Jonathan Wilbanks — was being held without bail on suspicion of homicide, the attempted murder of a police officer and other charges.
Officials are hoping $10,000 being offered by the San Jose Police Officers Association and $10,000 from the city will lead police to the second suspect.
Police say Wilbanks was one of two men in a car that a San Jose police officer had spotted Friday night that fit the description of the getaway car used in a series of robberies and in a fatal carjacking attempt earlier Friday.
Police say when the officer stopped his squad car behind the car being driven by the suspects, both suspects opened fire.
