SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's campaign watchdog agency says a former legislative leader violated state law by using campaign money to buy a state vehicle and have it titled under his name.
The Fair Political Practices Commission issued a warning letter to former Senate minority leader Bob Dutton but did not impose a fine.
Dutton, a Rancho Cucamonga Republican, used campaign money to buy the 2005 Chevy Tahoe, which had been his state-issued vehicle. The purchase came to light during an investigation last year by The Associated Press.
In the letter made public Monday, the commission said Dutton violated campaign law because the vehicle's title was in his name and the name of his campaign committee.
He was not fined because he included his name to obtain insurance and has since sold the vehicle.
