MODESTO, Calif. (AP) — A chain-swinging man apparently under the influence of drugs has been subdued by a California SWAT team after a nearly five-hour standoff in a gas station convenience store.

Modesto police arrived at the Shell station Sunday evening after someone reported a man armed with a chain was threatening people inside the minimart.

The Modesto Bee (http://bit.ly/XBuoSw ) says officers managed to get employees and customers out of the store before the man trashed the store by knocking down shelves and breaking bottles.

A SWAT team moved in and arrested the man just before 11 p.m. The man's name hasn't been released.
