WEAVERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Rescue crews are searching for a Santa Rosa man who went missing after setting off on a hike in a Northern California forest.
The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa reports that 59-year-old Stephen Michael Morris was reported missing late Saturday evening by friends with whom he was camping in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest after he left for a day hike but never returned.
Trinity County Sheriff's Sgt. Will Oliver says Morris was with another man, but they became separated during their return from a summit they had hiked to. Morris had power bars and a small amount of water, but Oliver says he was not prepared to be out at night, when temperatures in the area drop to 20 degrees.
The sheriff's office is leading the search.
