Son due for sentencing in Vegas highway shooting

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 22-year-old Las Vegas man could face to up to 30 years in Nevada state prison for his role in the shooting of his stepfather to collect a life insurance policy.

Michael Andrew Bessey is due for sentencing Wednesday after pleading guilty in January to conspiracy and attempted murder in the wounding of Robert Bessey in November 2012.

Michael Bessey's mother, Amy Pearson Bessey, was sentenced last month to up to 44 years after a jury found her guilty of orchestrating the plot.

Michael Bessey and his uncle, Richard Pearson, were arrested shortly Robert Bessey was shot while driving to work on Interstate 15.

Amy Bessey was arrested several weeks later.

Richard Pearson is due for sentencing April 30 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and attempted murder in the case.
