LAS VEGAS (AP) — The conservative magazine National Review and the Las Vegas Review-Journal are suing for records on employees of the state health exchange.
The lawsuit filed Friday against the Nevada Division of Insurance seeks background information on 11 current or former workers who National Review reporter Jill Melchior believes may have criminal backgrounds.
The workers are "navigators" who help enroll people in the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, part of the new health care law.
Attorneys for the publications say navigators deal with information including Social Security numbers, and say allowing convicted criminals to deal with the data could pose a security threat for participants.
The lawsuit contends the information is public, but says the department refused to release it.
Officials with the division didn't immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
