LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a kidnapping suspect has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot during a standoff at a Nevada hotel.

The Nye County Sheriff's office says the incident began when a gunman kidnapped a woman in the Las Vegas area Saturday night.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that police notified Nye authorities Sunday morning that the two were believed to be in the Pahrump area.

Sheriff's deputies located them at a hotel around 6 a.m. and SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were called, while guests in nearby rooms were evacuated.

Authorities say that as officers began to enter the room, a single gunshot rang out and the suspect was found dead. The woman was unharmed.

No other details were immediately available, including the names of the suspect and victim.
