LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities have arrested an alleged drunk driver who took off after crashing into back of a Los Angeles police cruiser, injuring two officers.

The Los Angeles Times reports the officers were on routine patrol when the collision occurred early Wednesday in South LA.

Sgt. Jeremy Duncan one officer suffered a contusion to the head and both officers complained of neck and back pain. They were conscious when taken to a hospital and were expected to be released later in the day.

The collision rendered the patrol car inoperable.

The 36-year-old suspect, identified by authorities as Nathaniel Strother, was caught about five minutes after the crash.

The newspaper says Strother was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, but there may be additional charges for the alleged hit-and-run.
