SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — San Jose police have arrested a man suspected of assaulting an officer after a standoff during which the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment building.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/1dMZnTx) that the unidentified man was taken into custody a little past 12 p.m. Tuesday, about four hours after police say officers approached him for behaving suspiciously.

Police spokesman Albert Morales says the suspect began to fight with the officers, trying unsuccessfully to grab one of their guns before running into a nearby apartment.

During the ensuing standoff, police speaking in English and Spanish blared their sirens and used loudspeakers to try to convince the suspect to come out.
