LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas college student who's benefiting from President Obama's immigration policies will be seated with the first lady during the State of the Union address.
Alan Aleman is one of about two dozen guests who will sit with Michelle Obama and Jill Biden during Tuesday evening's speech. He's the only one from Nevada.
Aleman was born in Mexico but couldn't get a driver's license or a job as a teenager because of his immigration status. White House officials say he was one of the first to apply and be accepted into the president's deferred action program, which waives deportation for young illegal immigrants pursuing education or military service in the U.S.
Aleman attends the College of Southern Nevada. He hopes to be a doctor and join the Air Force.
