LAS VEGAS (AP) — Investigators are probing the background of a Las Vegas police lieutenant for clues to why he would shoot his wife and son dead, set fire to their home in Boulder City, and kill himself when police arrived.
Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy says the names of the dead will probably be released Tuesday.
Sheriff Douglas Gillespie acknowledges the 8:20 a.m. Monday incident involved a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police lieutenant.
He says the investigation is being handled by police from Henderson.
A Henderson police spokesman says it all looks like a murder-suicide.
The home was owned by Las Vegas police Lt. Hans Walters.
He was married to a former Las Vegas police officer, Kathryn Walters. She left the department in 2005.
Officials think the boy was born about that time.
