Ventura County deputy kills gunman in Fillmore

FILLMORE, Calif. (AP) — Ventura County authorities say a sheriff's deputy in Fillmore shot and killed a gunman who fired his weapon after being ordered to drop it.

Sgt. Eric Buschow says a caller reported a person with a gun in the area of Mountain Vista Elementary School at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was gone deputies arrived but a description of his vehicle and license plate led them to his home two blocks away.

Buschow says the deputies found the man and repeatedly ordered him to drop the gun. Buschow says the man raised the gun to the side and fired, and then a deputy shot him.

Deputies then discovered the man had fatally shot a dog.

The man was identified as 33-year-old Josue Jimenez. Buschow says deputies had previous contact with Jimenez.
