LAS VEGAS (AP) — Organizers of an annual homeless census are seeking volunteers to help count the number of people living on the streets in and around Las Vegas.

The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition plans to deploy teams of surveyors for the one-night tally from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Jan. 29.

Volunteers will be asked to attend one of two training sessions at 8:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. on Jan. 23.

The coalition has logged a decline in the number of homeless people in Clark County since a similar count in January 2009 found more than 13,000 people on the streets.

Local officials say the January 2013 homeless census found 7,355 people on the streets.
