WESTMINSTER, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a woman has been found dead after a fire near an Orange County freeway.

The Orange County Register reports that police and fire departments are investigating whether the woman may have died in a cooking accident in a homeless encampment near the intersection of Interstate 405 and State Route 22 in Westminster.

County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi says calls came in reporting a trash fire at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, and crews arrived to find it had spread to vegetation. The fire burned about 500 square feet of brush and was out in about 15 minutes.

Westminster police Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze says a woman's body was found in the aftermath of the fire, and forensic investigators are working to identify her.
