SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a crash between two big-rig trucks and a minivan in a Southern California coastal tunnel have killed one person and injured seven others — including two children who are in critical condition.

Santa Monica spokeswoman Robin Gee says the crash occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Gee says all of the injured were in the minivan.

The California Highway Patrol says the accident has shut down the westbound side of the McClure Tunnel, which connects the Pacific Coast Highway west of Los Angeles with Interstate 10.

Traffic on PCH and nearby Santa Monica streets is backed up for miles.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
